How to Properly Wear An Odhani In 5 Easy Steps

An odhani is a beautiful, flowing garment that can be worn in many different ways. Here are five easy steps to help you wear an odhani in the way that best suits your style and occasion.

1. Wear as a scarf

Our favorite way to wear an odhani, step one is to drape the noppa around your shoulders and wrap it over your head like a hijab. The folds can be used as a shawl and draped over both shoulders or left hanging off of one shoulder (like in the picture above).

2. Make it into an overcoat

Take the odhani and drape it across your body like you would any other long coat. If you are wearing one of our eye-catching blouses, you can fasten the noppa behind your neck for a pop of color to match the skirt or trousers that you will be wearing underneath. If not, comfortable bottoms should suffice.

3. The side knot

Another way to wear an odhani as a scarf is to tuck the left end under right armpit and then bring it behind your back where both ends meet again at your waist level. Holding both ends, tie them together by lifting the loose end over top (see picture) You can let go here if you’d like to wear the odhani as a loose shawl or bring both ends to one side and use them as an arm loop (see picture below).

4. The Odhani Glasses trick

It’s not just for superheroes! Let your odhani shine with this trick. Drape the noppa over one shoulder and behind your head so that it covers your forehead and most of your eyes. Tuck the noppa under itself at cheek level and pull it towards you so that there is a diagonal fold on each side of the eye area. Bring the noppa over top of your head again, leaving only a small gap where you can see through. You’ll find that this creates a perfect eyewear spot without any strings digging into your face.

5. The sari-inspired method

Take your odhani and drape it as you would a sari – pleats in the front and the noppa hanging over your shoulder diagonally from the left side of your body. You can do this for a more formal or informal look depending on what you pair with your odhani. To make a statement, throw a waist coat over top!
